The World’s First Operational Computer ?
On October 26th 2015 an Engineering Heritage International Marker was presented by Queensland Governor Paul de Jersey for the invention of the world’s first automatic totalisator by Sir George Julius in 1913.

The totalisator, (the “T” in the “TAB”) is a device that registers bets and calculates the cumulative odds for a win and place, for each horse in a given race, as the bets are placed.
The machine has more recently been recognised by many universities and professional associations as the world’s first operational computer. The first prototype has pride of place at the Powerhouse Museum.
